Paul McCartney Les Paul Guitar to auction for $40,000

A Gibson Les Paul guitar, made for, & played by, Paul McCartney is to be auctioned by Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas on July 17th 2022.

The guitar was specifically made for McCartney to play during a 1988 HBO TV tribute show to Les Paul.

Sadly McCartney could not take part in the TV tribute and instead recorded his segment in advance and played a Les Paul song accompanying the guitar.

The left handed guitar, serial number 81898520 is in gloss black with gold accents and bidding starts at $40,000.

Heritage have previously sold a Hi-Series ‘B-Bass’ guitar for $6,875 in April 2015 that had been signed by Paul McCartney on October 1st 2005 when McCartney appeared in concert at Madison Square in New York City.

In December 2021 a Guitar played by McCartney when he performed in Wings broke the auction record for a bass guitar when it sold for $471,900.

That particular auction was to raise funds for the Music Rising charity, founded by U2 guitarist The Edge, with proceeds going to musicians in New Orleans affected by Hurricane Ida.
