The photo was a mughsot taken in New York after Bowie was arrested on drug charges in Rochester with fellow musician Iggy Pop back in 1976.

Bowie, Pop and one other were arrested at the American Rochester Hotel with half a pound of marijuana in their possession, with Bowie paying bail for all three and pleading not guilty.

The 9.5 x 9cm kodak photo was taken the following day when they attended the police station.

The provenance states the photograph was retained by the office who fingerprinted and photographed the pair and was passed to a friend as a wedding present, and has been in his collection ever since.

David Bowie memorabilia continues to sell well at auction with a 1997 painting Bowie had painted himself selling for CAD$108,120 in June 2021.

The 9" x 8" canvas, titled 'DHead XLVI' had originally been purchased by it's owner for just CAD$5.
