David Bowie and Glam Rock memorabilia to be sold at Omega Auctions.

Hit up your 1970’s vibe. Do your hair, pull on your most outrageous costume, sprinkle the glitter and put on your platform heels. Then head on over to Omega Auctions for their David Bowie and Glam Rock Auction on Tuesday 27th September, where 143 lots of music memorabilia are on offer.

We’ve already reported on the superb David Bowie handwritten Starman lyrics. With an estimate of £30,000 - £40,000 the handwritten page of lyrics has so far received 2 bids at £28,000 with 6 days to go.

Also included in the auction are various records, LP’s, DVD’s and box sets from the Glam Rock era.

Highlights include a copy of the ‘Barcelona’ LP of Freddie Mercury and Spanish Operatic Soprano Montserrat Caballe, which has been signed by Freddie and has an estimate of £1,000 - £2,000.

The provenance states that the record was originally given away in a radio competition in 1987 and has been authenticated by Roger Epperson, an expert in music related memorabilia. The current bis is £800.

Another great piece is a 10” x 7” handwritten card signed by Freddie Mercury which reads:

'Dear Alison, Thank you for your letter - Do keep up the good work! My love to all your furry friends! Good luck and best wishes Freddie Mercury 1 Logan Place Kensington W.8.'

The provenance states that the vendor of the item had asked Freddie for a charity donation, and a facsimile of Freddie’s bank cheque donation is included in the sale.

This item has already exceeded its estimate of £1,000 with 3 bids currently at £1,100

One of our favourite lots is an unused aftershow pass to David Bowie’s Meltdown Festival in 2002, which has been signed by David Bowie, dated 29th June.

The festival started on Saturday 22th June 2002, but due to Bowie’s fear of flying he didn’t make it to the festival until Saturday 29th June when he closed the festival with the traditional performance of the curator.

The aftershow pass has also matched it’s £200 estimate with 3 bids and still 6 days of bidding remaining.

On the Glam Rock front a small collection of Marc Bolan memorabilia is worth a look with an estimate of just £60 - £100.

The collection consists of 15 posters, mostly from magazines, but also with a very visual and rare 1970’s ‘Slider’ billboard poster.
