The ministerial 1973 Rover P5 that drove newly elected Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher from Conservative HQ to Buckingham Palace, to meet the Queen, in order to form a new Government, is to be sold by Silverstone auctions with a £35,000 - £45,000 estimate.
Billed as 'the car that drove Thatcher to power' the ebony black Rover, number plate GYE 329N, was one of three used for ministerial duties.
The car was retired from Government duties in 1980 when in entered private ownership with 76,000 miles on the clock.
The car has received a part renovation, with a new gearbox and a paint job, but still retains it's original interior, as recently featured in Classic & Sportscar magazine.
In 2018 Bonhams sold a 2010 4.2-litre Jaguar XJ8 LWB 'Armoured' Saloon used by Thatcher and David Cameron for £27,083.
The car had been used by Margaret Thatcher as Prime Minister, and was loaned to David Cameron when he was elected Prime Minster, and pictured driving from Buckingham Palace to Downing Street after his meeting with The Queen.
Whilst in 2013 Humberts Auctions sold what was described as a 'battle bus' used by Thatcher when she visited Northern Ireland.
The 28-tonne bus, with armour plated glass, sold for £16,940 against a £6,000 estimate.
