Chaucer Auctions 1st February Autograph auction features one of the Holy Grails of collecting, a fully signed photograph of the England 1966 World Cup winning football team.
The 8.5 x 7.5 inch colour photograph has been signed by the 11 players who played in the Wembley Final versus West Germany, a match England won 4-2 in extra time, to win the Jules Rimet trophy for the first, and so far, only time.
The famous photo shows Bobby Moore, holding the world cup trophy, being held aloft by his teams mates as they celebrate at Wembley Stadium.
Signed by Bobby Moore, Gordon Banks, Alan Ball, Bobby Charlton, Jack Charlton, George Cohen, Roger Hunt, Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters, Nobby Stiles, Ray Wilson - the most notable signature is that of Captain Bobby Moore, which is notoriously difficult to find.
Signed photos featuring the signatures of the other 10 England players are remarkably common and generally sell for around £150, but it's the signature of Bobby Moore than elevates this item to 'blue chip' status, qualifying for the Memorabilia Club's mantra "Better than Bitcoin".
It's hard to say exactly how many full team signed photos are known to exist but we would confidently put the figure at less than 50, having tracked memorabilia auctions on a daily basis for the last 30 years,
The photo has an estimate of £480 - £500 and is being sold with a certificate of authenticity from Chaucer Auctions.
England World Cup Winning memorabilia can be considered relatively undervalued in the grand scheme of collecting, but prices have picked up in 2022, with Alan Ball's winners medal selling for £250,000 and even the penny coin, used in the coin toss, to start the 1966 World Cup Final selling for £9,000 in November 2022.
Certainly an area to watch in 2023.
