Julien's Auctions are selling a beehive hair topper worn by Amy Winehouse as a Physical Asset NFT with an auction estimate of $10,000 - $20,000.
The hair piece was worn by Amy during her video appearance at the 2008 Grammy Awards when she sang 'You know I'm no good', which was described as the breakout performance of the Grammy's by Entertainment Weekly.
Winehouse won a then record 5 awards including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for "Rehab", becoming the first British woman to win 5 Grammy Awards and only the 5th woman of all time, after Lauryn Hill, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys and Beyonce.
A 24 year-old Amy didn't attend the Awards as she had just entered drug rehabilitation in London. Instead she appeared via satellite link wearing a black stretch cotton tube top and skirt designed by Tina Kalivas, along with the beehive hair topper.
The cotton tube top and skirt were sold in September 2022 by GWS auctions with a $7,500 estimate.
The beehive has so far attracted 2 bids, with the current bid at $4,500.
Julien's are wrapping this up as a Physical Asset NFT sale so the winning bidder will also receive a 360 degree digital image of the beehive hair topper as a 1 of 1 Edition NFT on the Polygon blockchain, plus the physical asset itself.
The beehive is one of 32 Amy Winehouse memorabilia lots to appear in the Julien's auction, which also includes dresses, hoodies, shirts and lingerie worn by Amy plus signed guitars and handwritten lyrics.
A very personal item is a love letter written by Amy to her then imprisoned husband Blake Fielder-Civil which has an estimate of $2,000 - $3,000,
The love letter reads in full:
"Happy Ten Months Treacle! My Blake, my hero! OH you have to know how in love I am and always will be with my Mr. I know you know. Come on sailor stay clever with me I want you more than ever. hands sturdy on my waist and hips pressed so I can feel you hard. I wish I could take your heart out so I could cradle it held next to mine + kiss it. That sounds silly but I'm desperate and terrified that you think I feel anything other than pure devotion to you! I'm so lucky you love me. Please see me for what I am: your pearless [sic] wife who won't ever stop championing your name and singing sweet your praises. So I dream of the day you can hold your hands up in victory and walk free cos I've been waiting in your corner for months handsome."
Seldom do love letters appear at auction so this is well worth a look.
Sadly Amy is a member of the infamous 27 Club, a long list of famous musicians who have died at the age of 27.
