This is a 1914 Ford Model T Motor Caravan, described as being the world's oldest motor caravan.
The caravan is part of Bonhams Beaulieu Sale Collectors' Motor Cars and Automabilia that takes place on September 10th 2022.
The estimate is £20,000 - £30,000 but we expect it to sell for six figures because it’s so fantastic.
The Model T Motor Caravan was originally commissioned in 1914 by the British Bentall family, of department store fame, and then completely restored to its original specification in the 1970's.
Based on a Model T chassis the caravan has been extended by Baico and the body originally built by Dunton of Reading, famous for building gypsy caravans from 1884.
Only 6 years later the caravan was sold and later abandoned before being found and subject to a four year restoration in the 1970s when over 95% of the original timbers were saved.
Following the restoration the caravan was the star of the 1976 HCVC London-Brighton run, winning seven awards.
On a practical level the caravan features four berths, a wood burning stove, brass lamps, pots and pans, and a Welsh dresser wardrobe for your clothes storage.
The caravan has also received a write up in Which Motorcaravan stating "The quality of material and workmanship is superb in every way and the result of the restoration is a pleasing and comfortable motorcaravan, albeit that it is achieved by different means. However, I do not know of a modern design that provides such a volume of storage space."
A truly fabulous vehicle. If only we had the room to store it!
