A 1957 MBW Isetta 'Bubble car' once owned by Sir Stirling Moss is to be sold at Silverstone Auctions with a guide price of £50,000 - £60,000.
The original Isetta 600 was rebuilt by Sir Stirling with a new BMW 700 engine installed.
The four-wheel 600 is considered a rare car as it was relatively expensive to buy and BMW had already committed to building the bigger and more conventional 700, so few were sold as buyers decided to wait for the arrival of the 700 in 1959.
The car started it's life in Sweden before coming to England where it was purchased by Sir Stirling Moss, at a Beaulieu car auction, who proceeded on a restoration with a number of upgrades including replacing the 600 engine with the 700 that he had acquired direct from BMW.
The finished car was used by Sir Stirling to drive around central London from his home in Mayfair, and also to teach his son Elliot to drive.
The photographic provenance accompanying the car includes photos of Stirling and Elliot with the car.
Moss eventually sold the car and it was purchased by the current auction vendor in 2012, who proceeded with his own restoration to restore the car to the same condition of Moss' orginal restoration.
That restoration is believed to have cost £30,000 hence the auction estimate of £50,000 - £60,000.
